The Great Elephant Plot

When you hear the words “Coup d’état” The United States is not the first country that comes to mind.  Donald Trump and much of the Republican party are now attempting to overthrow our government.   Think about it.      It is not the type of overthrow that you may typically think of.  For a long time, I have had my own theory about a conspiracy.  If you wanted to overthrow this government what would you do it?  You wouldn't do this overnight. It would a long-term plan.  And you may even consider that you're overthrowing the government but that is the result.
This plan started about 30 years ago.    It started with Rush Limbaugh.   Limbaugh started to are people, by insisting that Liberals, Democrats, Feminists, African Americans ACLU Cardholders were their worst enemy.   Without mentioning the of Joseph McCarthy he tried brought us back to the 1950s and McCarthyism.   He hasn't succeeded completely, but he did put that thought into a lot of minds.   Many of whom now occupy the House of Representatives, Senate, and White House.
While offsprings of Rush  (Hannity, Levine, Ingram, etc..) would start to pop up on radio stations that would program nothing more than Right-wing Hate radio.
The second member of this quiet conspiracy was Newt Gingrich.  He wanted then, and still wants to bring down the Democrats.  The first target was going to be Bill Clinton.     Bill Clinton didn't help himself.
Ken Starr, the third member,  was hired for prosecuting any crimes resulting from Whitewater.    Clinton's sexual escapades were not part f the investigation.  The special prosecutor's statute allows them to expand the investigation.
The plan backfired with Clinton. He was doing a good job as President, and impeachment only made him stronger.   They had to blame someone else. His wife.  "How dare Hillary Clinton, stay with him, after what he did."  Think about it, what else has she done that makes her the enemy of the right.   She was considered a good senator, who worked well with both sides,  As Secretary of State, she was investigated more than any person that I can think of.  She was cleared every time and continued, despite everything to be a patriot.    She has been out of the limelight for 4 years, and the rightwingers still yell "lock her up." Regardless of the fact that they cannot find a crime.
George  W. Bush was not in on the conspiracy but served their purposes.  His politics were right-wing, and he would surround himself with their type of people,  (Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc...). That gave them eight years to work behind the scenes.
During these eight years, they are anything but quiet.   They have support from the Supreme Court (Antonin Scalia and ClaranceThomas) but need more, and George Bush satisfies that need.  He picks John Roberts and Samual Alito. Roberts eventually backfires, has too much integrity to play the game. But Alito gives them the third justice.
They need a miserable  Senator who will block everything liberal, to be majority leader.  If they happen not to be in the majority he will have no compunction against filibustering and Democratic proposal. Enter Mitch McConnell.
Their policy is slander and lie,  Knowing that if you say something often enough it will stick. The democrats think that they can beat an unpopular president in 2004. Both President and Vice President have questionable military records.  In contrast to the Democrats nominate the most Liberal Senator, who also voluntarily served his country, winning the purple heart.   Somehow they would get the country to believe that John Kerry, who bravely served was the coward.
The 2008 Election, gives the impression that they may have failed.  They nominate someone who will never play along, John McCain.  Worse he's running against a black man..  They must now figure out how to counter this advantage. How can they continue to bring the country into fascism and counterbalance the advantage gotten from a minority candidate? Sarah Palin.
Bring in a beauty queen.  They'll get the female vote. Republicans always underestimate females.  they won't vote for a moron. When they finally realize that she is an idiot, they turn to their superweapon.   "What would Americans fear even more than a black man?" Answers pop-up from everywhere,  but only one man had the right answer.  Republicans all knew this man.  They all recognized him.  Some despised him, some merely disliked him.  The man spoke.  "I know how to do this.  Nobody ever thought of this before.  This is the largest crowd any speaker has ever gotten. Can we chant 'Lock her up?"   The two other men chatted.  He told the plan. "Make all of the American bigots believe that he was born elsewhere."
Despite Donald Trump's brilliant plan, now called "birtherism." Republicans lose in 2008, and in 2012  However McConnell's vow of patriotism, "my main goal is to see that Barack Obama serves one term. For the short time, that President Obama had the minority, things got done. They saved the Auto Industry; Passed "Lily Ledbetter;" Passed "The Affordable Care Act Pass" while Republicans are in the minority.  However when Republicans take over the majority in 2010.  Due to McConnell, It became very difficult to get any legislation.   McConnell also blocked judges.
Due House at the time looked unwinnable for years to come.  The Republicans had made that elections are controlled,  First by Gerrymandering the  Congressional districts and the legislative districts to the point that it is not unusual for a state that has far more democrats have a majority of the voters, with a minority of the representatives.
Almost a year before President Obama leaves office Justice Scalia.  Republican leader McConnell violates his oath of office and does not all "advise and consent" on his proposed successor.   FDDemocrats do nothing.
2016 it is time for Obama to go. But they overplay their hand. They nominate Donald TrumpThe problem was not his cooperation. He want s to control the world. It was his mouth. He would time and again confess to all of his wrongdoing, but the democrats have done nothing.
Long before the 2016 election, the Republican's work was done.  Hillary Clinton was arguably the most qualified person ever running for President  But the Republicans had long poisoned her to the American people.
Trump wins in 2016 and immediately chooses a far-right Justice.  Their plans had been so far foiled. because Roberts turned out to be a wildcard,  Justice Kennedy's subsequent retirement and replaced by another far-right, should have given a clear 5-4 majority. But it didn't because of Justice Roberts.
They have control of the Senate and The White House.  Without control, The State Department and the Justice Department, can't complete the coup.
Trump never understood ethics.  When Jeff Sessions rightfully recuses himself from the Russian Investigation, he throws fits.   He eventually replaces Sessions with William Barr.
Barr appears to the perfect guy for this plan- he protects the President.
While this is going Trump is nominating Reactionary judges. McConnell is letting them through
At this time the Republicans who had planned his coup, have control of the Senate. Justice Department, State Department (Mike Pompoa, The Secretary of State was acting far more political .  The only stopping them is the courts.   The Right has 4 definite votes: Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and Kavanagh. The left has four votes: Ginsberg, Bryer, Sotomayor, and Kagen. Roberts has taken the role that O'Connor and Kennedy had. He was unpredictable.
    Then Ginsberg dies.
It didn't completely work this time, but the Republicans have not given up. Let's see what happens with President Biden's cabinet choices.
By cooperating with Trump on his ridiculous fight to eep the Presidency, they have poisoned the Trump/Harris for their entire Presidency

March 22, 2011. Shaken not Stirred

I was asked for a poem about my plight.
After a sort debate, I said alright.
Since you've asked for Poetry, Madam
I will try, said Marc-I -Am
My favorite poet was Dr. Seuss
So watch out now, I’m on the loose
Parkinson’s may have slowed me down
But on my face. appears no frown
Limbaugh may think that we are fakin'.
I'll mix him a Martini, he'll see it's not stirred but shaken.
Buttons, Ties and Laces cause me trouble
And I'd prefer to skip a shave and have a stubble
    My handwritten is unrecognizable
    sloppy, shaky and barely sizeable.
But if you attempt to match me, word for word
    I guarantee, you'll look absurd.
Don't waste your time with this endeavour.
My mind is just as sharp as ever
Just as it was, when I did start,
It's my second favorite body part.

January 2, 2011. Angry Young Man

Why are we incensed by the rantings of the less than mentally titanic celebrity? That was not meant critically, my vitriol to those who use their accidental fame to spew hate, is equally baffling.

There have been many such incidents but three in the last decade stand out.

    1) The New York Knicks, April 2001. A New York Times writer, Eric Konigsberg, had been attending a bible study run by Charlie Ward of the Knicks. Ward addressing the writer asked, ''Jews are stubborn, E. But tell me, why did they persecute Jesus unless he knew something they didn't want to accept?''

''They had his blood on their hands,'' Ward added.

Allan Houston, then cited a passage in the New Testament: ''Matthew 26, verse 67. Then they spit in Jesus' face and hit him with their fists.''

Ward added: ''There are Christians getting persecuted by Jews every day. There's been books written about this -- people who are raised Jewish and find Christ, and then their parents stop talking to them.''

At the time I shared a Knick season ticket. My friend and I have never attended a game since then.

I'm sure that this bothers the Knicks. After all we split a pretzel and drank one bottle of water each at the game. Now, I'm sure those tickets are used by people who drink a six pack each.

    2) The second was Mel Gibson. who during a DUI arrest in 2006 was captured on tape. shouting anti-semitic remarks to a Jewish policeman. I understand that the current issue of GQ, quotes WInona Ryder that Gibson was anti-Semitic and homophobic, but “No one believed me.”

Ryder said that at a Hollywood party 15 years ago, Gibson called Jews “oven dodgers,” referring to the ovens of the Nazi extermination camps—a term she said she had never heard before.

Long after his Anti-Semitic rantings, Gibson was still a regular guest star on Jay Leno. I guess that Jay is more forgiving than I.

    3) The third incident, involves Rush Limbaugh and Michael J. Fox. After a series of political ads, in which Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease, and has been a tireless spokesman for others who suffer, supported candidates who favored Stem Cell research. Limbaugh without the benefit of any research said, "He is exaggerating the effects of the disease... He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. . . . This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself." Later, still on the air, Limbaugh would apologize.

Why do I care what these people say. Ward and Houston are now ex-athletes. Their statements were made out of stupidity and should be given no credence. Gibson, it seems, may finally be a non issue. Everybody knows he is a bigot. I doubt that he will ever be a success again. Limbaugh is still on the air. Maybe more powerful than ever. He has unexplainable control over the Republican party. This is far from the first or the last time that this man was guilty of irresponsible journalism. This man is the second coming of Father Coughlin.

Somebody will respond to this and say that, "every time you write something negative about him you're giving him what he wants. If we ignore him, we make him less important." Yes and no. Because he has such a large and loud following we must continue to point out every time he makes a bigoted, insensitive or uninformed statement.

I believe in the First Amendment. He can say what he wants. It is also my first Amendment right to say what I want. The only way to shut him up is to show him for the person that he is. Like Father Coughlin before him, we must shut him up. The way to do that is to keep hammering at his lies, until all know him for the person that he is, and his ratings take him off of the air.

December 31, 2010. I've never faced the Kobayashi Maru

What the hell am I talking about? What is the Kobayashi Maru? You have to go back to Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan. It's the no-win situation. Captain Kirk did not believe in the no-win situation. Ergo, he never faced it. Unlike Captain Kirk, I do believe in it, I just have never needed to face it. I guess the closest that I ever came was a dream that I had, right after the Bar exam, that the lack of a job had forced me to live on the streets. I blamed that dream upon a Hebrew National Salami that I had before going to bed.

So why do I write this now? Am I finally forced to face the Kobayashi Maru? I don't think so. I have a wonderful support system. My lovely wife keeps me from doing the foolish things, like going out in the middle of a snowstorm.

Besides Law School, I don't feel as if I've ever faced a challenge. Circumstances saw fit for me not to have children. That would have been the ultimate challenge. My work is tedious, but relatively simple.

Is PD the challenge that I've never faced before, and am I facing it now? In many ways yes. I know, intellectually, that there is no cure. Michael J. Fox believes that there will be a cure within this decade. He has done wonders. He has raised money, raised awareness, brought hope, and unintentionally made a fool of Rush Limbaugh. (He didn't need Michael's help for that.)

I'll accept Michael's optimism, and face the Kobayashi Maru another day.

November 28, 2010. Go Ask Alice.

    One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
    Don't do anything at all
(White Rabbit, by Grace Slick, 1967)

I'm not somebody who likes taking drugs. I've been drunk once in my life. That was 1981, Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park. I smoked pot, maybe 5 times. Decided that I was acting ridiculous, and never did it again. I have never held a conventional cigarette in my hands, let alone my mouth. My drug of choice was always chocolate.

So now as I line up my prescriptions in the morning, the thought goes through my mind, do I really need these?

The first prescription that I had was for Mirapex. This was to control the very slight tremor that I had in my hand and the more prominent tremor in my legs. Mirapex has been known to have many side effects. The most serious is obsessive behavior. People have claimed to develop serious gambling habits on Mirapex. I have notice some obsessions. I nosh (snack for all of you unfamiliar with everyday Yiddish), far too much.

Mirapex also causes some people to act out their dreams. It's dangerous for me, since I dream predominantly about sports. As I've already stated, I've slid into bases, taken jump shots and shot a hockey puck in my sleep.

Mirapex also makes one sleepy, so I've avoided raising the dosage. About 3 years ago, I started taking an Israeli drug called Azilect. I was told that it had incredible results with no known side effects. The results were very good and until I researched this I was unaware of any side effects. My right eye tears quite a bit and I get neck pains. I just learned that these can be caused by the Azilect.

In addition to those medications, I now take what is considered to be "the gold standard," for Parkinson's patients Sinemet. It has done wonders. Except for increase sleepiness, I've notice no side effects. However, the side effects don't necessarily occur quickly. Increased dosages of this drug, which becomes needed, because it wears off earlier as time goes on, can cause Dyskenesia, or involuntary movements. These movements are what Rush Limbaugh, ignorantly, mocked, when describing Michael J. Fox.

So for somebody who hates medications, although I don't feel like I'm addicted, I am dependent. It's been nearly 5 years since I've gone a day without medication. The question occurs to me, "Do I even know what the side effects are, or do I need somebody who has known and seen me prior to taking these drugs, to tell me if they've affected my behavior?"
